Robber wrote own name and address on stolen scratch card

Summary

Wayne Sullivan, 38, of Beauvale Park, Artane, Dublin, was convicted of robbing a Spar shop in Coolock on 12 January 2021. He travelled to the shop by taxi, asked the driver to make a U‑turn and wait, then entered the shop armed with a plastic gun. Sullivan took cash and scratch cards, including a winning €5,000 card, which he later cashed at the GPO. He had written his name and address on the back of the card. Gardaí traced the card via its barcode, searched Sullivan's home under warrant and recovered clothing and a facemask containing his DNA. The taxi driver and shop staff provided testimony. Sullivan pleaded guilty and was sentenced to two and a half years, with the final year suspended and the sentence back‑dated to 18 March, when he was already in custody for other matters. The €5,000 prize was not recovered.
