Dealer caught with €250k in prescription painkillers is jailed

Summary

Vincent O'Connor, 41, was jailed for three and a half years after Gardai seized €254,000 worth of prescription painkillers, €14,500 of illegal drugs and €16,000 in cash from his Ballymun home on 30 October 2020. The drugs were found in a drawer, a jacket and a safe. O'Connor pleaded guilty to possession for sale or supply of cocaine and unlawful possession of prescription tablets. He admitted that he had a drug habit and had been approached to hold the drugs, claiming he could not refuse. He expressed remorse and explained that his marriage had broken down, forcing him to sell the family home and that he had turned to drugs and alcohol. The court noted he had no prior convictions and had complied with bail conditions, but the seriousness of the offence warranted a prison sentence. The judge imposed concurrent sentences of three and a half years.
