Serial conman pretended he was making RTE doc on sick children
Summary
Patrick Sheedy, 53, was sentenced to 15 months' imprisonment for a series of fraud offences. He had previously been convicted 97 times, about 70 of them for fraud. While on bail for earlier convictions, he carried out new crimes between January and March 2020. He pretended to be a documentary maker for RTE and convinced an electronics company to supply an iPad and 15 mobile phones, claiming a sick child would use them. The company lost €13,539 when Sheedy failed to pay. He also posed as a Department of Education employee and ordered 12 mobile phones from an educational supplies company, losing €9,801. Additionally, he claimed to work for BMW and ordered five iPhones worth €4,200 from a mobile phone company, again not paying. He pleaded guilty to six counts of deception and four counts of theft.
