Man who secretly filmed former partner avoids jail

Summary

Sean Kershaw, 38, of Blanchardstown, pleaded guilty to harassment for a four‑month period from 1 January to 11 April 2021. He placed a tablet in his ex‑partner's kitchen to secretly film her and accessed her emails and WhatsApp. Garda Jessica Maguire testified that the device recorded for 36 days and that Kershaw had also accessed her laptop and copied messages. Kershaw admitted watching her from the kitchen window on three occasions and had approached her new partner, telling him not to disclose their encounter. He was arrested on 13 April 2021 and had a tablet and phone seized. Judge Martin Nolan imposed a three‑year jail sentence, suspended for three years on the condition of good behaviour, and ordered Kershaw to have no contact with his former partner except for child‑access arrangements. He was also ordered to destroy all recordings and hand over any other material to Gardaí.
