Suspended sentence for woman who became involved in violent incident at pet shop
Summary
Vicky Dempsey, 34, of Stannaway Road, Crumlin, pleaded guilty to violent disorder at Purrrfect Pets on 5 February 2011. She was sentenced by Judge Mary Ellen Ring to two years in prison, suspended in full, and ordered to comply with Probation Services for 12 months and to follow any education and training directions. Dempsey, who has 12 prior convictions mainly for road traffic offences, was involved in the incident after her brother Karl Dempsey, also of Stannaway Road, had a dispute in the car park. Dempsey dragged a woman backwards by her hair while the woman's partner was attacked. The judge accepted that Dempsey acted on impulse and expressed extreme remorse. Karl Dempsey is due for sentencing later this year when full facts will be heard. The incident also involved Mark Eagers, who sustained injuries, and Lasra Long, who was pulled backwards by her hair.
