'I am not a thief' Michael Lynn tells trial
Summary
Michael Lynn, aged 53, is on trial in Dublin Circuit Criminal Court for 21 counts of theft involving about €27 million from seven financial institutions between October 2006 and April 2007. He has pleaded not guilty. During the third day of evidence, Lynn described himself as greedy and driven but not a thief, claiming that banks were "confederates" and that they had lent him money for a property called Glenlion in Howth, which he says was actually used for a development in Portugal. He alleged that loans were rolled over verbally and that banks were aware of the practice. Lynn also recounted that in 2007 his accounts were frozen by the High Court and that he sought "breathing space" from senior bankers, including Michael Fingleton and Sean FitzPatrick, to repay the debts. The trial is proceeding before Judge Martin Nolan and a jury.
