'Very common' for 'Deliveroo community' to have bikes stolen, witness tells murder trial
Summary
During the murder trial of George Gonzaga Bento, a 36‑year‑old Brazilian delivery rider, witness Mr Guilherme Quieroz testified that it is common for Deliveroo riders to have their bikes stolen. Quieroz, who had moved to Ireland in early 2020 and worked for Uber Eats, described how he and Bento were on their bikes near a McDonald's on East Wall Road on 26 January 2021 when they saw a man on a moped carrying a bicycle that appeared to be a stolen Deliveroo bike. Quieroz followed the moped rider with Bento, who confronted the rider and told him to leave the bike. The rider shouted and kicked the bike, but did not take it. Quieroz said the incident led to a confrontation that later involved the murder of 16‑year‑old Josh Dunne. Bento is charged with murder, assault, intimidation and assault causing harm, and has pleaded not guilty to all four counts.
