Jury convicts Romanian gypsy man of murder in Dublin park
Summary
A jury in Dublin found 42‑year‑old Feri Anghel guilty of murdering fellow Romanian Ioan Artene Bob, 49, in Sean Walsh Memorial Park, Tallaght, on 13 April 2018. Anghel, a Romanian gypsy with no fixed abode, had pleaded not guilty. The trial, opened at the Central Criminal Court seven weeks earlier, lasted three hours and 44 minutes. Evidence included CCTV footage of Anghel and Bob together, a broken nose, extensive bruising, broken jaw and fractured ribs on Bob, and a cause of death of blunt‑force trauma with bilateral lung collapse. Anghel had been seen on CCTV attempting to use Bob's bank card at a shopping centre that night. The jury found the case against Anghel to be strong enough to convict, despite the defence's claims of prejudice and lack of direct evidence. Anghel was remanded in custody pending sentencing.
