Mugger caught after he cashed in victim's winning betting slip

Summary

Anthony Paget, 39, of Carnlough Road, Cabra, was jailed for two years after pleading guilty to robbing Mark O'Brien in Dublin city centre on 9 June 2013. Paget had 39 prior convictions, including a serious assault. He was arrested following police work and admitted the offence. Garda Patrick Gallagher described the robbery: O'Brien was walking along Millennium Bridge when a girl with a Dublin accent approached him, told him to "clear off," and a man behind him lifted him into a choke hold while another man patted him down. O'Brien could not describe the men but reported that they took his wallet, which contained a winning Boyle Sport betting slip, a bank card and a Luas card. The next day CCTV from a nearby Boyle Sports shop showed Paget and two accomplices cashing in the betting slip. Paget later claimed he spent the money on snow blow and alcohol.
