'I did it, I stabbed that girl...it was me': Urantsetseg Tserendorj murder accused to gardai
Summary
A 16‑year‑old boy, whose identity is protected, is on trial at the Central Criminal Court for the murder of 49‑year‑old Mongolian woman Urantsetseg Tserendorj. He pleaded not guilty to murder but guilty to manslaughter on 29 January 2021, a plea the State did not accept. He also pleaded guilty to producing a knife and attempting to rob Ms Tserendorj on 20 January 2021. The boy told Gardaí that he stabbed the woman, robbed her and that it was him. CCTV footage from the IFSC House shows the boy on a pedal bike confronting Ms Tserendorj around 9.30 pm, stabbing her in the neck. The wound cut the carotid artery; she was taken to Mater Hospital, placed on life support, and died nine days later. The trial will focus on the boy's state of mind and his age. The jury is instructed to avoid prejudice and not to research the case online. The proceedings are ongoing.
