Brothers accused of trying to murder garda admit to lesser charges

Summary

Two brothers, Gavin Quinn (27) and Lee Quinn (26), were re‑arraigned on lesser charges after a trial for the attempted murder of Garda Alan Murphy. Gavin pleaded not guilty to the attempted murder and to assaulting a peace officer, but later pleaded guilty to assaulting a peace officer in the execution of duty under Section 19(1) of the Criminal Justice (Public Order) Act 1994. Lee pleaded not guilty to the attempted murder but guilty to assault causing harm and to attempting to cause serious harm to the Garda, and also pleaded not guilty to a Section 185 assault and to possession of an offensive weapon. Both men were remanded in custody by Justice Eileen Creedon until May 23 for sentencing, pending background reports. The case was heard at the Central Criminal Court.
