Summary

Two brothers, Gavin Quinn, 27, and Lee Quinn, 26, are set to stand trial at the Central Criminal Court for attempting to murder Garda Alan Murphy on 30 March 2020. Gavin Quinn pleaded not guilty to both the attempted murder and to assaulting the Garda, claiming he was reckless under Section 185 of the Criminal Justice Act 2000. Lee Quinn entered a special plea of not guilty to the attempted murder but pleaded guilty to assault causing harm to the Garda on the same date. He also pleaded not guilty to a Section 185 assault charge and to possession of an offensive weapon – a knife – intended to unlawfully injure, under Section 9(5) of the Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act 1990. The jury, sworn today, will hear the case, which is expected to last five days, with the Director of Public Prosecutions opening the case on 3 March.
