Summary

The Dublin Circuit Criminal Court heard evidence that Michael Lynn, a former solicitor aged 53, applied for mortgages on ten residential investment properties between September and December 2006. The applications involved four properties with a combined loan of €945,000, three with just over €1 million, and three with €1.4 million. The properties were one‑, two‑ and three‑bed apartments in East Wall, Parnell Square, Bolton Street and Gardiner Street. Lynn faces 21 theft charges for allegedly stealing about €27 million from seven financial institutions, but he denies all charges. Prosecutor Patrick McGrath presented cheques showing the loan amounts drawn and credited to Lynn's account, with the last repayment in October 2007. An internal memo from Irish Nationwide Building Society urged that Lynn's applications be prioritised because he was "under pressure to close". The case is before Judge Martin Nolan and a jury.
