Drug dealing tent set up in public park

Summary

In a Dublin Circuit Criminal Court hearing on 26 January 2022, two men were sentenced to two years' imprisonment each for drug dealing from a tent in a public park. Gardaí, as part of an ongoing operation to disrupt drug activity along the Grand Canal in Clondalkin, located the tent on 3 April 2020. Garda Ciaran O'Neill explained that surveillance had been set up, and a man arriving on a motorbike with a package was followed into a field where the tent was found. Three men fled but were apprehended. The tent contained heroin estimated at €15,000, cocaine worth €4,150, cannabis valued at €13,267 and €40 of Diazepam tablets. Gary Lawlor, aged 24, of Cushlawn Park, Tallaght, and Sean Greene, aged 20, of Lealand Drive, Clondalkin, were charged with possession for sale or supply of drugs exceeding €13,000. Both pleaded guilty.
