Jury to continue deliberating in trial of husband accused of murdering wife
Summary
A jury will resume deliberations on Monday in the trial of Alan Ward, 54, who stabbed his wife Catherine Ward, 41, to death on 1 March 2019 at their Clondalkin home. Ward has pleaded not guilty to the murder charge and to an offence of threatening to kill or seriously harm his son Adam Ward, as well as to an attempt to stab Adam on the same date. The jury, composed of eight men and three women, has spent about five hours considering their verdicts and will return to the Central Criminal Court on Monday. Mr Justice Tony Hunt explained that the jury has two logical verdicts: guilty of murder, or not guilty of murder but guilty of manslaughter. He instructed them to first assess whether the prosecution has proved beyond a reasonable doubt that Ward intended to cause death or serious injury when he stabbed his wife.
