Armed robber in three raids over two days

Summary

Michael McDonagh, aged 23, was convicted of three armed robberies in Dublin 8 on 10 and 11 January. He used a firearm, a balaclava, gloves and a weapon that victims believed to be real, threatening staff and customers, including a pregnant woman. The robberies took place at an Applegreen, a Centra and a Eurospar, where he stole €700, €1,500 and a large quantity of cigarettes and tobacco. CCTV footage of him on a distinctive black bike led to his arrest. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to five-and-a-half years' imprisonment, with the sentence backdated to January. The court noted his seven prior convictions and his ongoing drug‑free progress in custody. The case was adjourned to March to address post‑release supervision.
