Summary

In a Special Criminal Court session on 10 November 2021, Judge Tara Burns welcomed a group of transition year students and cautioned them that the court would soon show "graphic" CCTV footage of a shooting involving three men. She advised the students to be prepared to leave if they felt upset. The footage, which the students viewed, depicted the attempted murders of Brian Masterson, Wayne Barrett and Austin Purcell at The Player's Lounge Public House on 26 July 2010. Mr Alan Wilson, aged 42, pleaded not guilty to the attempted murders and to possession of firearms and ammunition with intent to endanger life. Detective Garda David Dunne presented CCTV evidence from Mount Street, St Stephen's Lane, St Stephen's Place and the pub, showing a van and a Volkswagen Golf at the time of the shooting, the arrival of a man who discharged two firearms, and the subsequent departure of two vehicles.
