Summary
Eugene Farrell, 42, was sentenced to three years and nine months in prison for transporting firearms in a gym bag to settle his son's drug debt, after the family endured intimidation and attacks. He admitted to moving the bag, which contained a revolver, a Harrington and Richardson sawn‑off shotgun, a Mossberg sawn‑off shotgun, two Beretta shotguns and ammunition, some of which had been stolen in earlier burglaries. Farrell had 21 prior convictions, mainly traffic offences, and had previously transported drugs for the same people. Judge Elma Sheahan noted the family's terror but accepted that Farrell acted under duress, had no personal benefit, and had shown remorse. She imposed a four‑and‑a‑half‑year sentence, suspending the final nine months, with strict conditions including probation engagement for nine months after release. The weapons were seized during a Garda drug search of a Peugeot in Tallaght. Farrell's son's debt has since been paid. Eugene Farrell pleaded guilty.
