Hijacker who dragged retired doctor (72) as he drove off in her car gets 5.5 years

Summary

Patrick Doyle, aged 36, was jailed for five-and-a-half years after hijacking a retired doctor, 72, by forcing her to hand over her handbag and attempting to drive away in her car. The incident, captured on CCTV, showed Doyle dragging the woman along the front of the vehicle while she clutched her bag. He was convicted of seizing a vehicle by force or threat and robbery of a handbag and its contents. Doyle pleaded guilty and had 104 prior convictions, including one Circuit Court robbery.
