Wife lay dead on bloodied floor beside husband, fire officers tell trial

Summary

At 11.30pm the Dublin Fire Brigade entered the bedroom of the apartment on Dorset Square, Gardiner Street, where Anne Colomines, 37, lay dead on a blood‑stained floor beside her husband Renato Gehlen, 39. Fire officers observed a large amount of blood on the bed and floor, a white‑handled knife protruding from Gehlen's chest, and multiple stab wounds, a throat slash and a cut on his palm. Paramedics attempted resuscitation for 30 minutes but she had no pulse. The knife lodged in Gehlen's chest was not deep and fell out as he was moved downstairs. Officers found a black and yellow Stanley knife near the skirting board and blood spatter on the wall. The case is being heard by the Central Criminal Court, with Gehlen pleading not guilty to the murder of his French wife. The trial continues before Mr Justice Michael MacGrath and a jury.
