Summary

The Central Criminal Court heard that Renato Gehlen, a 39‑year‑old Brazilian, sent a text to Anne Colomines' new boyfriend warning him "not to ever go near" her. Colomines, a 37‑year‑old French national who worked for Pay‑Pal, had begun a relationship with a younger man she met on a holiday in France and had told Gehlen she wanted a divorce. She was found dead on 25 October 2017 in the apartment she shared with Gehlen in Dublin. Gehlen has pleaded not guilty to her murder. Witnesses, including former Pay‑Pal colleagues, described Colomines' desire for a fresh start and her attempts to help Gehlen with visa documents before her death. The trial is proceeding before Mr Justice Michael MacGrath with a jury of five women and seven men.
