Gunpoint mugger is jailed for robbing shop three months after release
Summary
Diarmuid Molloy, 41, was jailed for three years after robbing a Centra convenience store on Charlemont Street on 23 November 2020. He pleaded guilty to the robbery and to two counts of stealing beer earlier that day. CCTV footage showed him leaving the shop with a 12‑pack of Budweiser, returning half an hour later with two more cases, and then pointing a knife at the cashier to demand cash. He was arrested at his Gardiner Street guest house and has remained in custody since the offence. The robbery triggered the activation of an 18‑month suspended portion of a six‑year sentence he had received in 2017 for gun‑point robbery of a Trinity College student. Judge Cormac Quinn suspended the final 12 months of the new sentence, activated nine months of the suspended period from the earlier conviction, and imposed two years of post‑release supervision.
