Summary

During a Central Criminal Court hearing, a 56‑year‑old father accused of abusing and neglecting his children told Gardaí that his children "had everything they wanted". He said he did not work because of a medical condition and that he would "nearly go without fags to get the kids what they wanted". When asked about the children's hygiene, he said they were bathed twice a week and that the house was "as clean as it could be with five kids". He denied the abuse allegations made by one of his sons, calling the son a liar and describing the child as "unbelievable wild". The father also claimed he was unaware of his wife's pregnancy with their sixth child, saying she never told him she was pregnant. The trial heard that 66 devices seized from the accused's homes contained no evidential value.
