Summary

In the extended family abuse trial, the trial judge, Mr Justice Paul McDermott, directed that the case against the 57‑year‑old grandmother be withdrawn and that she be found not guilty by direction. She had been accused of three counts of sexually assaulting her granddaughter, allegations she denied. The child witness, during cross‑examination, could not recall any assault by the grandmother. The trial continues with the remaining six accused, who include parents, aunts and uncles of the complainants, all of whom deny the charges.
