Garda 'expected to die' during attempt to seize car
Summary
Trevor Robinson, 30, pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to assisting an offender and two charges of burglary arising from incidents on April 9, 2018. The court heard that Robinson was in a vehicle with Christina Joyce when she accelerated away while Garda Thomas Gallagher was attempting to seize the car. An eyewitness alleged that Robinson shouted at Joyce to wipe down the vehicle to remove fingerprints as they fled. The pair subsequently broke into the home of a 77-year-old woman and a second apartment to escape Gardaí, with Robinson allegedly kicking down the back door. This follows the 2018 sentencing of Joyce, who was jailed for four and a half years by Judge Martin Nolan for endangering and assaulting Garda Gallagher. The garda sustained a dislocated knee and shoulder injuries during the incident. Robinson has previous convictions in Ireland and the UK, mostly for minor offences.
