Children neglected, sexually abused and assaulted by parents and relatives, State to argue

Summary

Three children, aged about 14, just under 13 and just under 12, were said to have been seriously neglected and sexually abused by their parents and relatives over a period from August 2014 to April 2016. The accused, seven adults aged 27 to 57, include the children's father and mother, the mother's sister and her partner, the mother's brother and his partner, and the maternal grandmother. All seven pleaded not guilty to various counts of rape, anal rape, oral rape, sexual assault, sexual exploitation and wilfully neglecting a child. The allegations were investigated by Gardaí after the children were taken into care and are now living with foster parents. The case is before Mr Justice Paul McDermott and a jury in the Central Criminal Court.
