Brothers jailed for 'terrifying' harassment of family left 'under siege' in own home
Summary
Two brothers, Karl (27) and Cian (30) Hughes, were sentenced to a combined six and a half years in prison for harassing the Kennedy family in Rathfarnham, Dublin, between April and September 2019. The harassment stemmed from a debt the brothers claimed the family's son, Cormac, owed. The brothers repeatedly visited the Kennedy home, threatened the family, and in some instances physically banged on the door. CCTV footage of the incidents was presented at the hearing. The court found Karl to be the leader and Cian a follower. Judge Martin Nolan imposed four years for Karl and two and a half years for Cian, ordering that neither brother may contact the Kennedy family again. The case highlighted the severe emotional distress caused to the family, who ultimately sold their home and sought increased security measures.
