Artur Pietrynka, 40, of Convent Lane in Rush, pleaded guilty at Balbriggan District Court to urinating on Upper Main Street in Rush on November 22nd. He also admitted to being intoxicated and using threatening and abusive behaviour on the same date. Sergeant Tony Tighe testified that Garda Robert Dillon observed Pietrynka urinating in public at 8.45pm, forcing two females to cross the road. Pietrynka allegedly became abusive, shouting at the garda and providing only his first name before walking off. Although Pietrynka has no previous convictions, he received an Adult Caution in 2012 for similar offences. Defence solicitor Donagh McGowan stated that Pietrynka has limited English, claimed he was "caught short," and asserted he was not very drunk. Judge Dermot Dempsey rejected the suggestion that language barriers excused the conduct, remarking that it made the situation worse that the defendant claimed he was not very drunk. The judge described the actions as "animalistic behaviour" in a civilised society. The matter was adjourned until February 12th. The court ordered a Probation Report to assess Pietrynka's suitability for 240 hours of community service in lieu of a two-month prison sentence.
