Criminal threatened to kill and 'boot baby out of' former partner
Summary
Karl Fields, aged 26, was jailed for five‑and‑a‑half years after repeatedly harassing his former partner, calling her up to 100 times a day and threatening to kill her, to throw acid in her face, to "boot the baby out of her" and to cut her throat. He also threatened to burn her house and to kill her children. The court heard that his threats were motivated by jealousy over her new relationship. Fields pleaded guilty to harassment, threat to kill and contravention of a protection order in April 2020, and to an additional threat to kill and another contravention in November 2020. Judge Melanie Greally imposed a total of eight years' imprisonment, suspending the final two‑and‑a‑half years, and ordered the sentences to run consecutively. The victim's impact statement highlighted the fear and disruption caused by Fields' conduct. The defendant's defence cited a difficult upbringing and behavioural problems.
