Summary

Alan Cox, 31, from Ashwood Park, Clondalkin, was found guilty of possession of cannabis and diamorphine after a search of his home revealed almost €115,000 worth of heroin stashed in a Henry Hoover vacuum cleaner. Gardaí discovered 69.984 g of cannabis and 817.17 g of diamorphine, along with drug paraphernalia, plastic bags, a pink grinder, €900 in cash, a tick list, plastic cut‑offs, weighing scales and latex gloves. Cox's DNA was on the gloves. He had three prior convictions, including misuse of drugs and threatening behaviour. The court heard that he was battling benzodiazepine and cannabis addiction and that he had stored the drugs to cancel a debt. Judge Pauline Codd sentenced him to six years' imprisonment, with the final two years suspended on strict conditions, including engagement with the Probation Service for two years upon release.
