Student stole from employer to pay for masters in dispute resolution
Summary
A Dublin Circuit Criminal Court heard that 26‑year‑old Eoram Dobnam De Lima, a university student, stole €6,936 in cash from his employer, a Centra newsagent in Charlemont Street, between 1 November 2019 and 15 January 2020. He regularly voided transactions while working the till, then totalling the voided amounts at the end of his shift and taking the money in cash. CCTV footage and a till security system revealed the irregularities, and the store owner, Robert O'Leary, investigated the times of the voids and matched them with the footage. De Lima admitted the theft when confronted, also admitting a prior incident in September 2019 for which no evidence existed. He pleaded guilty to three counts of stealing property. Defending counsel said he used the money to pay for his Masters in Dispute Resolution and expressed remorse, wishing to repay the loss.
