Jail for father who attacked ex and child
Summary
A man was sentenced to two years' imprisonment for assaulting his infant child and his ex‑partner in two separate incidents. In September 2019 he struck the woman repeatedly around the head while she held their three‑month‑old baby, pushed her against a wall, and knocked the child's head against the wall. He later took the child away, but the woman recovered the baby. In June 2020, while arguing over milk for the baby in his home in Rush, the man hit the woman with closed fists, dragged her back when she tried to leave, and threatened a nearby technician with a metal bar. He held the child up to a window and later to the back of a door when Gardaí attempted to intervene. He pleaded guilty to child cruelty and assault causing harm to both the woman and the child.
