Violent offender further jailed for threatening ex and family after assault
Summary
In March 2021, Noel McCabe, aged 25, was sentenced by the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court for obstructing justice after he threatened his ex‑partner, claiming her family, including her young daughter, would be shot if she did not drop assault charges. McCabe, already serving a six‑and‑a‑half‑year term for assault and violent disorder, pleaded guilty to intimidation in June 2018. The court noted the victim's 18‑month relationship with McCabe and her "nightmare" description of it. Judge Melanie Greally suspended the final year of a five‑year sentence on the condition of two years' peace and Probation Service engagement, and ordered no contact with the victim or her family. McCabe also admitted unlawful possession of five shotgun cartridges, receiving a similar concurrent sentence. The sentences run concurrently with his current term, ending after its completion. The judge cited mitigating factors such as remorse and personal hardship.
