Heroin stashed in Henry Hoover

Summary

Alan Cox, 31, of Ashwood Park, Clondalkin, Dublin, pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to possession of cannabis and diamorphine on 22 July 2019. Garda Ciaran O'Neill reported that on 16 July 2019 he visited Cox's home, where the partner answered and claimed only a small amount of weed was present. A search of the property revealed cannabis, drug paraphernalia, and a Henry Hoover vacuum cleaner containing 817.17 g of diamorphine worth €114,478 and 69.984 g of cannabis worth €1,400, totalling €115,878. Additional items included plastic bags, a pink grinder, €900 in cash, a tick list, plastic cut‑offs, weighing scales and latex gloves. Cox's DNA matched the gloves. He has three prior convictions, including two for drug misuse and one for threatening or abusive behaviour. The court adjourned sentencing to 22 March next year to allow a probation report.
