Violent, unstable addict jailed for attacking partner and 'smashing up' home

Summary

Paul O'Shea, 34, of Owensilla, Ballymun, was sentenced by Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to three and a half years' imprisonment, with the final year suspended on the condition of good behaviour, particularly regarding drugs. He pleaded guilty to assaulting his former partner on 17 May, during which he threw chairs, punched her in the head, kicked her, dragged her to the front garden, and called her names. He also smashed a front door window, an upstairs window, a brick at her bedroom window, and a photo of her children and parents. The victim, who had a protection order against him, described him as "on a mad one" and was terrified, having marks on her left side from kicks and on her face from blows. Gardaí were alerted at 4 am by the partner, and O'Shea fled the scene, later being arrested after attempting to escape from his parents' house.
