Attacker repeatedly stamped on homeless man's head

Summary

In a laneway near St Stephen's Green, Dublin, on 4 June 2020, 25‑year‑old Keith Devine, who has no fixed abode, assaulted an unconscious homeless man. Devine first exchanged words with the victim, then attempted a head‑butt and punched him eight times. The victim was knocked unconscious and fell to the ground. Devine stamped on the victim's head five times, dislodging the victim's false teeth. He then moved the victim off the road and searched his pockets, but did not steal anything. Witnesses called the Gardaí, who arrested Devine. The victim was taken to hospital for a head wound and later discharged. Devine pleaded guilty to assault causing harm at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court. The case is set for finalisation on 17 February 2024, with a report from the Probation Service ordered by Judge Melanie Greally.
