Handcuffed accused trying to dispose of drugs hidden in underwear

Summary

Sean Maher, aged 20, was arrested for possession of drugs for sale or supply on 27 June 2019. While being led to a patrol car by Garda Brendan Murphy, he attempted to discard drugs hidden in his underwear. Garda Murphy stopped him, searched him, and found a small amount of cannabis. Maher was handcuffed and, during a physical altercation, he dropped drugs onto the ground. All drugs were recovered. A search of Maher's home uncovered additional cannabis, cocaine, heroin, ketamine, and concealed weighing scales, with a total value of €13,220. Maher pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court. He had no prior convictions. Judge Pauline Codd sentenced him to three years imprisonment, fully suspended on strict conditions, citing his drug addiction and lack of prior convictions.
