Firearms accused refused to engage with gardai
Summary
Trevor Byrne, 40, of Cappagh Road, Finglas, Dublin 11, was arrested during a 2019 raid on a Dublin house. Armed gardai found him seated on a couch where a loaded semi‑automatic firearm was later discovered. Garda Sean White, who served as the jailer at Clondalkin Garda Station, reported that Byrne did not engage with him or answer questions about his health or rights while in custody. White was unable to complete required medical forms because Byrne remained silent, though he noted obvious signs of a medical condition when Byrne's clothes were taken for forensic examination. Sergeant Nuala Bruce later observed that Byrne eventually understood the reason for his arrest and requested a solicitor. Byrne has pleaded not guilty to possession of a 9mm Luger‑calibre Radom 35, six rounds of 9mm ammunition, two additional rounds, and €3,050 in cash alleged to be proceeds of criminal conduct.
