Sex predator attacked women two days after prison release
Summary
Philip Murphy, 40, was released from prison two days before he sexually assaulted two women in Dublin in February 2016. He had served most of a 10‑year sentence for false imprisonment. In the first incident, he grabbed a woman from behind on Jervis Lane, threatened to kill her, and attempted to force sex. She tried to escape, screamed, and was aided by bystanders. In the second incident on Moore Street, he similarly attacked a woman, threatening her life and attempting to choke her. CCTV footage showed him wearing gloves and following the victims. Murphy denied the offences, claimed he had received psychological treatment, and said he was gay. He was extradited from the UK in June after a European arrest warrant. The case is set for sentencing in February, with a probation report due. Philip Murphy pleaded guilty.
