Human trafficker wanted for over a decade arrested in Dublin

Summary

Liviu Biliuta, 55, a former resident of Botosani, Romania, was arrested in Dublin on 10 November 2020 and brought before the High Court. He had been wanted for over a decade and was charged under a European Arrest Warrant issued by the High Court in 2016. Biliuta was convicted in 2008 by a Botosani court of trafficking an adult female and a girl for prostitution, and was sentenced to seven years in prison for helping to bring the victims to the Netherlands in 2004‑05. He was cautioned after questioning and taken to Bridewell Garda Station. The case was adjourned to 19 November for a bail application ahead of an extradition hearing on 27 November.
