Pair stole €18k from casino by manipulating machines
Summary
Two men, Tayab Kourtishe (47) and Jagjeet Singh (41), were sentenced to two and a half years in prison, suspended in full on strict conditions, for stealing almost €18,000 from Expo Casino in The Square, Tallaght. Kourtishe and Singh were caught on CCTV footage manipulating the casino's machines. Kourtishe removed the glass cover from a roulette table, placed a ball on a number, and then used a stolen key to unlock the fruit machine and withdraw the money that a third person had loaded into it. Singh later cleared the machine's transaction records, erasing evidence of the €50 notes that had been deposited. Kourtishe stole €8,895 from the fruit machines and the roulette table, while Singh stole €8,988. Both pleaded guilty, made full restitution, and had no prior convictions. The judge noted their actions were a breach of trust and that the offences were out of character, but accepted their cooperation and restitution.
