Chronic addict carried out violent robberies
Summary
Martin Kenny, 48, was sentenced to eight years' imprisonment for three robberies committed over 15 months. The first robbery took place at a local bookmaker's on 11 January 2019, where Kenny grabbed a woman in her 60s, held a knife to her throat, demanded cash and fled with €190 after punching another customer. The second robbery occurred on 30 March 2019 at the South Circular Road, where he stole €300. The third robbery was on 18 April 2020 at a Maxol petrol station, where he pointed a knife at a staff member, demanded €50 notes and left with €400. Kenny was arrested at a Luas stop after the third incident. He pleaded guilty to robbery and assault causing harm. Judge Sarah Berkeley imposed a consecutive sentence of eight years, suspending the final two years on the condition that he engage with the Probation Service for two years upon release.
