Summary

Darren Fagan, aged 20, was convicted at Balbriggan District Court for intoxication and threatening behaviour after giving a two‑finger gesture to Garda Wayne Keown on Drogheda Street. The court warned him to apologise to the Garda and to donate €100 to the Garda Benevolent Fund by 27 November to avoid conviction. Fagan admitted he had not apologised and could not raise the money. He pleaded guilty to the offence, which occurred at about 11.20 pm on 27 September. His defence solicitor noted his history of hostel stays and addiction issues, but also that he had completed a Health & Fitness course and an animation course. Judge Dermot Dempsey fined him €100 and imposed recognisance pending appeal, as he had failed to meet the court's conditions.
