Summary

In a series of incidents over ten minutes in Lusk, Co Dublin, 23‑year‑old Declan Turner, who has 33 prior convictions and a drug problem, attempted to rob a 76‑year‑old woman at knifepoint after already robbing a Supervalu and a Gino's takeaway. CCTV showed Turner approaching a Supervalu staff member, brandishing a knife and demanding money, but the staff member pressed a bell and Turner left empty‑handed. He then stole a €20 note from Gino's by jumping the counter. Later, he approached the elderly woman in Orlynn Park, produced the knife, demanded money and threatened to kill her. She showed him her empty hands, he left, and she called her brother‑in‑law who alerted the gardai. Turner was arrested the next day, initially unfit for interview but later admitted the robberies, claimed no recollection of the knife or the elderly woman, and expressed remorse. Declan Turner pleaded guilty.
