Serial road rage motorist jailed for attack

Summary

Michael Reilly, aged 50, was sentenced to two years in prison for a road‑rage incident at the Pavilion Shopping Centre Roundabout on Malahide Road, Swords, on 11 November 2017. Reilly stopped his van in front of another driver after the victim shouted at him for pulling across traffic. He exited his van, struck the windscreen with a lump hammer (causing no damage), then grabbed the victim as he tried to exit the car and repeatedly punched him in the head, shouting that he would kill him. Witnesses reported Reilly holding the victim in a headlock and punching him up to four times. After driving the victim off, Reilly was identified by Gardaí and arrested 18 months later. He pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
