Summary
Robert Cummins, 35, a father of three from Cushlawn Park, Tallaght, was sentenced to four and a half years in prison after pleading guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to possession of €143,000 worth of cocaine, amphetamines and PVP. Cummins had been addicted to cocaine, spending €300 a week since 2009, and owed €1,200 to third parties. On 11 November 2013, Gardaí searched his home, finding a key to a locked shed, a blue plastic box with two black refuge sacks, four vacuumed packs of drugs, three smaller bags, digital weighing scales and €4,900. Cummins admitted he had held the drugs for unscrupulous people for six to eight weeks, fearing for his and his family's safety. Defence counsel Kieran Kelly noted Cummins had given up gambling and drugs, and Judge Martin Nolan described the case as tragic for the family and a significant misjudgement by Cummins.
