Bail for man (61) charged with involvement in attempted murder of Kinahan target
Summary
Stephen Fowler, 61, of Blakestown Cottages, Clonsilla, Dublin 15, was charged with involvement in the attempted murder of James 'Mago' Gately, a target of the Kinahan cartel. The offence, under Section 72(1A) of the Criminal Justice Act 2006, alleges that between 7 December 2016 and 6 April 2017, Fowler, knowing of a criminal organisation, participated in activities that would enable the murder of Gately. Gately was shot multiple times on 10 May 2017 at the Topaz filling station on Clonashaugh Road, Dublin 17. Fowler was arrested on 1 July 2020 at Blanchardstown Garda Station on a warrant. Despite objections from Garda Suzanne Lyons, Mr Justice Alexander Owens granted bail under Section 2 of the Bail Act, ordering a €20,000 bond, residence at his daughter's address, daily reporting to Blanchardstown Garda Station, and restrictions on travel and contact with co‑accused Peter Keating.
