Summary

Christopher Maguire, 42, of Moatview Close, Priorswood, Dublin, was convicted in the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on 10 May 2019 for producing an article, assault, and threats to kill or seriously harm his sister and her husband at Killester Avenue, Killester. He also pleaded guilty on 6 September 2019 to two counts of intimidating a witness at Harry Byrne's public house, Howth Road, Clontarf. For these offences he received a combined 21‑month sentence. In January 2018, Maguire had previously been given a three‑year suspended sentence by the Special Criminal Court for his role in a "mob" that falsely imprisoned Martin Byrne and Lisa Byrne in Saggart on 9 June 2015. The Special Criminal Court judge, Mr Justice Tony Hunt, reactivated that suspended sentence following the recent Circuit Court conviction. The judge noted that the original sentence was an "exceptional chance" and that Maguire was not the most serious player.
