Jail for burger kitchen manager who stole day's takings
Summary
Eduards Babinjans, 32, manager at Gourmet Burger Kitchen in Liffey Valley, Dublin, was jailed for eight months after failing to deposit €920 into the company safe at the end of his shift. He had signed a form confirming the cash was dropped, but Garda Emily Beddingfield noted the safe was checked weekly and the money was not found. The chef, who witnessed Babinjans counting the cash that night, later stated he saw Babinjans place the cash in a bag, seal it, and hand it back to him, but did not see it put in the safe. Babinjans was arrested, interviewed without admission, and suggested the bag might have been stuck in the safe. The money was never recovered. He pleaded guilty to theft on 24 May 2018, has five prior convictions, and is due for release in September.
