Emma Cowley, a 23‑year‑old Montessori worker from Swords, pleaded guilty to assaulting Garda Miriam O'Donovan on 16 August at Swords Garda Station. Cowley was intoxicated, used threatening and abusive language, and struck the Garda on the right side of her face with an elbow, causing a sore jaw. She called the Garda a "dirty lesbian slag" and told her to "go f**k yourself." The incident was reported by a taxi driver who had seen Cowley asleep in the back seat. Cowley appeared late for her hearing at Swords District Court, where Judge Dermot Dempsey postponed the case to Balbriggan District Court. After Cowley paid €500 to the Garda Benevolent Fund, the judge struck the case out, warning her to behave better in the future. The case was dismissed without further proceedings.
